Allison McKeen

Allison McKeen is a self taught interdisciplinary artist living and working in Gardiner, Maine - currently focused on printmaking, illustration, design, and sewing. Her work is an exploratory adventure of shape, color and pattern - inspired by themes of nostalgia, comfort, humor, and play.

Her quilted paintings make a visual language of color and form out of fabric scraps and fragments. These sewn paintings bridge practices of quilting and drawing, making lines and shapes of the diverse textures and colors of found fabric. A basic principle of randomness within structure guides the improvisational work of creating these quilt works. Inklings of plans continuously shift as the pieces are intuitively built.
