Meg Hahn

Artist Statement

My practice is rooted within the process of painting and drawing, and influenced by the formal qualities found from my surroundings. I am drawn to patterns, shapes, and colors that I collect through observation, such as architectural moments, casted shadows, and scenes from the everyday. Through drawing and cut paper, I build forms that I use to compose layers of geometric shapes. By building up layers of color to create monochromatic palettes, I look to create subtle shifts in contrast to invite a slower viewing experience. My paintings are a record of a back and forth between creating a visual steadiness and then an interruption.
